One-third of the Kenya's population is under 20 yrs old. Many of them are in schools and colleges and will want jobs as soon as they clear. Don't forget that there are millions already out in the marketplace seeking unavailable work.
Out of 13.7 million youth in Kenya, slightly more than half live in poverty, yet they have needs that include food, shelter, health, intimacy and luxuries. All these require money to fulfill and when they lack it,they turn to creative ways of getting it. Sadly, many turn to crime, drugs, alcohol and promiscuous sex.
Poverty truly is a curse as it makes individuals vulnerable. We must strive to dig ourselves out of this cesspit and devise ingenuous ways of tapping the energy and creative juices of our youth. We must begin to lay firmer foundations for our youth through early trainings in all stages of schooling beginning from nursery education and introducing of ICT technology in the rural villages by establishing learning centers.
